Gokong

Gokong now weighs about 10 kg and has made much progress in the last six months. He is a very active youngster and his main play mates include Nadya, Siboy, Megaloman and Rahul.

Gokong and Siboy will play rough with each other. Gokong has a good appetite and eats all of the fruit given to him. His favourties are durian and duku. He can still be a bit fussy with his green vegetables.

Gokong is developing his climbing skills and loves to play and climb in the trees. However Gokong has had some falls since he has not yet learnt which branches are safe to climb on. He will sometimes use dry branches that break rather than the greener, strong branches. Despite his spills, Gokong is not afraid to climb back up and try again after having a reassuring cuddle with one of his carers. Baby orangutans learn how to climb from their mothers. Gokong will need to learn from the other more advanced orangutans, his baby sitters and from practicing himself.

Gokong will also eat some of the leaves when he is climbing in the trees. Gokong does not make nests yet and rarely uses the leaves for cushioning or bedding but he is still very young and has time to develop this important skill.

One of Gokong’s cheeky traits include trying to bite the keepers feet when he is out of the cage.
